Timber Structures and Wood Building Construction

This interdisciplinary course combines scientific, technical, managerial and creative disciplines into one coherent whole. It equips students with knowledge of wood construction and design, wood structure and composition, wood properties in wooden constructions, wood preservation, durability and the life span of timber constructions, working procedures, ecology of the manufacturing process, organization and economics. The programme also explores health and safety issues, economics, testing, etc. The aim of the programme is to provide a learning environment in which students are able to incorporate ecological knowledge and the requirements of sustainable development into design and realization of wood building construction. Graduates will acquire a sound understanding of various construction materials, technologies, construction, safety, operating procedures, ecology of the manufacturing process, organization and economics. Graduates may pursue career paths in small and middle-sized design agencies, construction companies, education, consultancy, service industry, or in the trade sector.

The programme is taught in Czech, and it is also open to students from abroad who received a Czech government scholarship.
